Howie Day: Unknown to Top Solo Artist

Just wanted to let everyone know that on December 13th Epic Records is releasing Day's new EP cd Live From...
"The seven-song disc was recorded in various parts of the country this past summer, when Day was touring in support of his gold-selling sophomore album STOP ALL THE WORLD NOW." The cd features all live recordings and has him playing with a full backing band.

Now back to Howie Day. Concert dates are up for the month of December. Once again there are no locations close enough for me to go to, so if anyone does get so see one of the shows please let me know how it was. The only show already sold out is in Lowell, MA, but there are still tickets available for all the others.

While i'm on the topic of other good artists, I thought I would inform everyone that Martin Sexton has a new holiday cd out! It's called Camp Holiday and you can listen to clips on his website.
It sounds amazing. If you've never even heard his music I also reccommend you download some quickly, Sexton has an amazing voice and his songs are awesome. My personal favorites are "Over My Head," "Glory Bound, " and his cover of Prince's "Purple Rain."

I know its a little off topic but I wanted to tell everyone about a new artist that my friend Nicole introduced to me, called Citizen Cope. He is another great songwriter, with unique songs that are unlike most of what you hear on the radio today. I haven't had a chance to hear his whole new album, The Clarence Greenwood Recordings, but it's definitly on my list of cds to buy. I would reccommend everyone give him a listen. If you want to check out his website and you can even preview a clip from his new video for the song "Son's Gonna Rise," one of Nicole and my favorites.

I think one of the most interesting things about Day is how he created the illusion of an invisible orchestra in his first album. To do this Day created a "lo-fi" recording system; a multi-track recording system where he could record something on one tape player and then using a second tape, record himself playing along to the first one.

With only an acoustic guitar and a series of delay petals Day, by himslef, can contol the backbeat, melody and extra percussion of each song he writes. Day credits singer/songwriter Joseph Arthur with inspiring him to use looping in his live performances. This way Day can build each song he performs live on stage and even finish writing half written shows right infront of his audience.

Finally, found the concert dates for the end of October and November. If anyone goes to any of the shows make sure you let me know how they are. Sadly, they're too far away from me and I won't be able to go to any.

For anyone that doesn't have one or any of Howie Day's cds, I searched Amazon and found some great prices for them. I also noticed that in the same search they had offers for Matt Nathanson and Jason Mraz cds and those are two other artists I highly reccommend you give a listen.

I also found another great website. Howiefan has concert dates (none for November yet), lyrics, discussion forums and even lets you submit your own Howie pictures.

HOWIE DAY WINS 2005 BOSTON MUSIC AWARD
On Sept. 28th Howie won 2005 Male Vocalist of the Year! Not only did he win but Howie was also nominated for Act of the Year and Song of the Year for Collide.

Just found a great article about a performance by Howie Day and Matt Nathanson. Most people don't know much about Nathanson but he is another great songwriter that is slowly becoming more recognizable. You may know his song, Laid, which was featured on the American Pie 3 soundtrack. I definitly reccommend you give him a listen.

While Australia and Stop All the World Now have been huge successes, they are not Howie Day's only albums. Day has also released the Madrigals EP. A collection of live tracks and demos that were produced in his own living room. I suggest everyone try to get a copy...it is amazing!

Another way to check out his live shows is through the Howie Day Trading Board. Since all of his performances differ in some way, this site allows fans to trade concerts online. Fans can also download these different versions and even contact the recorder.

Howie Day's popularity has grown tremendously since the release of his second album. I have created this blog to help keep other fans updated on tour dates and live performances in their areas. I also hope to expose others, who may not be aware of this amazing singer/songer, to a great performer. What people may hear of Day's on the radio is only a small portion of his amazing song collection.

Since the release of his second album, Stop All the World Now in 2003, Howie Day has transformed from an unknown recording artist to a top selling solo artist. His first album, Australia, which was self-financed and released in 2000 sold over 30,000 copies just by word of mouth. Catching the attention of Epic Records paved the way for this singer/songwriter to share his music with a much broader fan base.

Having toured with such artists as Sting, Jack Johnson and most recently Tori Amos, the 23 year old from Bangor, Maine has worked to create songs that cover an array of emotions and experiences.
